THE TRUTH ABOUT PUPPY MILLS
Through harnessing two enormous powers - the power of the Internet and the power in the hearts of millions of compassionate people - we can stop this atrocity!
No one has more power to fight puppy mills than the consumer. In each individual's hands is the ability to stop the cycle of abuse that ends with the purchase of a puppy mill puppy at a pet store.
I have taken this opportunity of advocating fiercely against the Puppy Mills as one of my rescue "Brado" (Lab GSD mix) met with an unfortunate end yesterday ( 5 March 2009). In other words we have a feeling that he took the bad omen which was due to come on my family and saved us. Yesterday night my seven old son had a severe head injury while playing and was critical. Within moments of being taken to hospital, he recovered surprisingly very fast and we all thanked God and Medical staff for the same. Today morning (6 March 2009 ) we had a call from the family who had adopted Brado just couple of months ago that he jumped from their moving car and was hit by another vehicle and is no more. We were very furious for the ignorance of them for taking a dog on car ride without proper precaution. And the timing of his death was just couple of moments before my son got injured. So we have a hitch that he sacrificed his life for remotely saving my son. Going deeper in the issue, we found that since he was a product of a puppy mill which was sold to a person saying a purebred Labrador, he was infact a cross with GSD. Such things mainly happens at puppy mills. To add to this, the owner hit him with a stick when he was about 45 days old and injured one of his eyes. The owner took him to a vet and when he came to know that he would never see from the injured eye, he left him at the vet. Vet called me up and i took the pup and named him "Brado". He stayed with us for about Eleven Months and grew into a very huge and excellent guard dog. Since we are in constant rescue and rehoming,we were approached by a decent family who showed interest in Brado. After of couple of meetings, we decided that Brado would get a loving home. Brado soon went to his new home about 200 miles away. We visited him twice and found him to be in great shape and health. But today when we came to know of his tragic end, the ugly and cruel face of Puppy Mills became fresh. One can only imagine the pain when a dog rescued meets such end. I know i would not be able to make much dent in this regard, but can create awareness among some genuine dog lovers.Through harnessing two enormous powers - the power of the Internet and the power in the hearts of millions of compassionate people - we can stop this atrocity!.
The only way to discourage a puppy mill according to me is NOT to buy any dogs from there. Yes, one can think that by buying, the pup can be rescued. Whereas there becomes a vacant space for another puppy and mill owner gets money.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for dogs housed and bred in puppy mills. Collectively, we can fight an industry that views dogs as mere profit machines. Dogs, our best friends and companions, deserve our best effort. After all the licks, wags, and love they have given us, we owe them this fight. Their lives depend on it.

Below are couple of Websites where more information on the same can be accessed.
